Arriving in Jamaica: Meeting the Community and the Infirmary

Landing in Jamaica marked the transition from preparation to presence. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by caregivers, staff, and community members who carry the responsibility of care every single day.

Visiting the infirmary was one of the most meaningful parts of the mission. These spaces support adults with disabilities, elderly communities and individuals who rely on consistent, attentive care. Meeting the staff and residents brought immediate clarity to why this work matters care is deeply personal, and access to basic supplies plays a significant role in quality of life.

Supplies were shared directly with those who would be using them daily. Hygiene items, medical products, and food staples were integrated into care environments where they could immediately make a difference. More importantly, conversations were shared, moments of connection, understanding, and mutual respect that reinforced the importance of partnership.

What stood out most was the dedication of caregivers. Their work is rooted in compassion and resilience, often under challenging conditions. Being present in these spaces highlighted how supporting caregivers is one of the most effective ways to support entire communities.
